A.L.E.S.A. - Local Agency for Energy of Chieti was born in the month of September 2001. The Agency was co-financed under the 2000 SAVE Programme together with AGEDE - Local Agency for Energy of the Municipality of Ecija (Spain). ALESA has been fully operating since the month of November 2001 with a staff composed of 5 full-time persons. To launch and publicize the Agency it has been created the A.L.E.S.A.'s web site (www.alesachieti.it), where the interested ones can get information about the Agency and communicate with its personnel. Then the Agency has joined the European network of FEDARENE (European Federation of Regional Energy and Environment Agencies), and the national network of RENAEL (National Net of Regional and Local Agencies  for Energy).

A.L.E.S.A. operates to promote on the territory RES and RUE acting in different ways in relation with the target groups and the aims proposed; in these first two work years, it has given its contribute to the fulfilment of the provincial energy plan, through the collecting of data and information available about energy management, in order to define the energetic strategies to resort to (Territorial Provincial Analysis, Analysis of the provincial energetic production, Analysis the provincial energetic consumption, Analysis of the sales of electricity and fuels, Analysis of energetic import - export).

The Agency operated in a good way also in the European field, taking part in some communitarian projects: IPRE project - Integrated Plan for Renewable Energies, co-funded to Province of Chieti under the ALTENER Programme, in which the Agency has the role of Scientific Direction; ENERGIES FOR EUROPE project, co-funded to the Province of Chieti under the LEONARDO Programme; E-TOON and REGBIE Projects about the diffusion of biomass for energetic aims.

A.L.E.S.A. has been very active also in the local and national field planning two research projects: the first in collaboration with the INRM - National Institute for the Mountain Research, about the valorisation of the local biomass; the second about the use of waste biomass for fuel cell in collaboration with the University "G.D'ANNUNZIO" of Chieti, the Province of Chieti and other private partners. Then the Agency gave its contribute in the Regional Solar Thermal and PV bans, both in the drafting phase in collaboration with Regione Abruzzo and in the diffusion phase towards the various target groups.

Another important activity that the Agency carry on since the first months of work, in the diffusion of RES and RUE through the organization of Conferences, Seminaries, Meetings and Workshops. The diffusion at various levels of news, good practices, possibilities of public and private co-funding for RES and RUE is one of the most important aims of the Agency, A.L.E.S.A. has already taken part to more than 10 communitarian events, 10 national events and more than 30 regional events. At last, very relevant can be considered the activity of Agency for the development of common actions with the Universities, Training Institutes and High Schools. The Agency reached great results also in this field, taking part in six degree thesis and organizing ten training stages.
