Energy and CO2 Emissions Balance in Town Žilina
Under the project MOVE, ECB in cooperation with VUD, elaborated “Energy and CO2 Emissions Balance in Žilina”. Its aim is the knowing of current state in total final energy consumption and CO2 Emissions in the town by sector and fuel, as well as the data in the transport sector, which is the study area of the project. On the same time it will serve as the basis for checking the tendencies and changes in the future, after implementing some mobility management principles.
It is necessary to highlight that such balance was prepared for the first time in the region of Žilina.
While on the present the transport in Žilina does not account for the biggest share in town energy consumption (18% of TFC), its demanding rate has been increased from year to year what is indicated by growing car ownership level. The between years increase is around 2,3% and the car ownership level in Zilina is higher than national average (Zilina = 251 passenger cars on 1000 inhabitants, Slovak Republic = 242).
Unfavourable fact is the dependence on and high consumption of fossil fuels, namely petrol and diesel in transport, which share for 96,3% of FEC in transport and in absolute number 1 285 TJ. Using alternative fuels (bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, biogas) or alternative drives (like hybrid cars, electromobiles) is not spread at all, neither in public mass transport nor in the vehicle fleet of municipality authorities. In the category of individual automobile transport are only some cases of using LPG (2,6%).
As a consequence of preferable use of oil products in transport is the bad CO2 Emissions Balance, where the amount of CO2 in 2005 from transport was 96 057 t, what is 1,13 t CO2 per inhabitant.
